Because they are easier to insulate slab foundations with stemwalls are preferable to monolithic slabs. The added cost for additional floor insulation can be paid back in as little as a couple of years though energy savings. The area between the stemwalls is usually filled with compacted gravel to support the slab. Labor for this foundation will cost about 7 000 for a total of 10 200.

Slab foundation is the least expensive of the three foundations. The same variables we used in pricing a slab apply to this foundation. Increasing sub slab insulation to r15 or r20 or more will make floors much more comfortable and reduce heating costs. A basement foundation supports the entire structure.

Insulated concrete forms foundations. A typical 1 200 square foot house foundation costs 6 900 to 16 200 for a concrete slab or about 40 000 for a full basement unfinished. A crawl space foundation costs approximately 10 000 to 25 000 and it could cost as much as double the cost of a slab for the same home. But in fact as foundations go it s quick and cost effective and provides an excellent base for the super insulated homes we build.

A floating slab for a mobile home runs 4 600 to 14 000 while a standard 24 x 24 2 car garage foundation costs 3 100 to 4 800.
